About Dougie

From the early age of four, Dougie Bolger’s dream has been to race cars. Racing is remains his passion, and Dougie intends to compete on the world stage to make his dream come true.

Born in Tokyo, 2004, to British and Japanese parents, Dougie is a unique dual national racer with a real dedication to mastering his chosen sport. By his fourth full season at the wheel, Dougie was crowned the back-to-back champion at the annual Haruna Cup event in his home country, before taking on the world’s best junior karters in the leading British championships.

The move to Europe is a path well-travelled by history’s greatest drivers, and Dougie soon proved his worth amongst his peers with multiple top-five finishes. With Fusion Motorsport, 2018 was a season to remember; 1st in Japan’s kart racer rankings. 29th in IAME’s Junior X30 world rankings. Podium finishes in the British, LGM and Japanese kart series.

For 2019, Dougie was approached by McLaren Racing to join their McLaren DNA Young Driver Programme. Developed in conjunction with the world’s best racing drivers, coaches and engineers, it drew upon McLaren’s expertise in human performance and cutting-edge data acquisition techniques to quantify performance. McLaren identified Dougie as a strong candidate for his strength of character, driving skills, and his remarkable rate of development.

Dougie debuted single-seaters in 2021 following a Covid impeded 2020 season that saw combination of British karting successes in the PFI Winter Series and relentless testing with reigning British F4 champions Carlin. Alongside Carlin and his long-time former McLaren trainer Simon at Formula to Perform, Dougie’s transition to single-seaters was supported by Kokoro Performance, who have guided young drivers to British F4, FIA F3 and F2 success.

2022 saw Dougie concentrate on his studies but he still managed to regularly race in the Radical championships where he picked up the 2022 Achievement Award for poling the SR3 on his first ever weekend behind the wheel. He went on the gain a third place and a victory that weekend.

 

In 2023 Dougie will partner with the legendary Sri Lankan racing driver Dilantha Malagamuwa to compete in the European Super Trofeo single make Lamborghini series.
